I tried to login via steam, and when that took too long I tried to quit. Nothing exits the process: Esc, enter, delete, backspace, space. So I pressed Alt-F4 to terminate the process.

Factorio froze, then crashed.
3. What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
I expected Factorio to close cleanly upon pressing Alt-F4. Prior to that, I expected some keystroke, like escape, would cancel the attempt to login via steam.
4. Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
It always happens.
5. If you can reproduce the issue provide the exact steps!
a. Open Factorio.
b. Go to Settings -> Other
c. Log out if currently logged in.
d. Log in.
e. While Factorio is trying to login via steam, press Alt-F4.
