Translation help for the wiki
Sorry for the noob question, I have been working on translating the wiki to Italian since almost none of it is. How do i get the infobox translated when translating a page (see https://wiki.factorio.com/Copper_cable/it) the infobox on the right is still in English and I can't figure out how to translate it.

The most important translation dictionary is a bit hidden. It's in https://wiki.factorio.com/Template:Translation/it for Italian. Templates appear to be empty if you just open it, but if you edit it, you get the source and all translations.
An example of how you could probably organize this dictionary is the german template: https://wiki.factorio.com/Template:Translation/de
I worked on it in the last years, and I tried to create a complete German translation without obsolete stuff back from Factorio development. Consult the game translation files in
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Factorio\data\core\locale\it\core.cfg"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Factorio\data\base\locale\it\base.cfg"
to get the ingame terminology. They are ascii files, can be opened with Notepad. If you are somewhat proficient in automating/scripting, you could probably pull many of the italian terminology in an automated way into the template, optionally using the German template as master.
I collected the resources and frequently used links I used for translation work to /de in my wiki user page: https://wiki.factorio.com/User:Tertius3
I didn't translate any articles by hand. I used Deepl to translate to German, then edit the machine generated text to fit the Factorio terminology (also using the Deepl glossary feature). As far as I see it, Deepl supports Italian, however I don't know how good. The German quality is excellent - better than if I translate anything manually. Works like magic.
You can probably also use ChatGPT as translator, giving it a glossary similar as with Deepl for Factorio specific terminology. it "understands" languages very good. A first test is promising, however it seems to need a few instructions to get it right.
Google Translator was close to Deepl quality, but actually less, so I stuck with Deepl.
ps.
By the way, leave out the "History" section. As far as I understand the translation guidelines, they should be completely left out from translations. They are to appear only on the English pages. (makes sense in my opinion)

Just an update here for anyone who will see this in the future. The template offered by Tertius has been extremely helpful, I super quickly have made a tiny python script that has saved me a considerable portion of the translation work, still i had to do a lot by hand. The script is a bit like my bases, very poorly done but it kinda works. If anyone plans on using it in the future for other languages it can be found here https://github.com/MadOctopus-private/F ... /tree/main expect a lot of manual work though.
