Rail chain signal should be blue, but is red, why?

Don't know how to use a machine? Looking for efficient setups? Stuck in a mission?

Rail chain signal should be blue, but is red, why?

Post by osbornx22 »

I dont understand, why the bottom rail chain signal signal is red and not blue, because there are still many free paths to green signals, for example straight up

Maybe the rail chain signal doesnt know, that the train will go down and its enough to go red, because the train can possible cross every path?

But i thought the chain signal knows the path. This is, what i understand from the wiki:

That is not how block signaling works. The way you build this, the whole junction is a single block and has a train in it so the block is occupied and all signals into it a red. You need to separate the paths with signals to allow trains to move independently but for this you need to leave room for signals in between.

Can you please show me a junction with the same possible routes, with working signals?

Here is my blueprint, if you need:

If you take a signal in your hand, you will see all rail blocks colored. As soon as one block is reserved or occupied by a train, it cannot be used by a another train.

Look at your block setup (picture on the left):

The whole junction is one piece, one block. As soon as one train is in, no other train can enter, even if the routes will not overlap.

The picture on the right is a attempt to divide the junction into independent parts. You see that a train coming from the left going to the bottom will touch the left and bottom block, so another train coming from the top goingto the right will occupy the top and right block only, so they are independent from another and can drive freely.

However, you cannot separate the parallel lanes with signals, because you left no space between them. So whenever a train wants to just drive through and another train is coming the opposite direction, one of them will wait, because all blocks always contain both directions.

You need to put some space between the tracks, as Loewchen showed. This spacing from him is some standard spacing, because it's easy to make transition rails from one to the other side. It's the smallest feasible spacing that allows complex junction setups. Smaller spacing is not feasible. Larger spacing is possible, but not required. Larger spacing allows more complex junctions, but it's not clear if it's really useful to justify all the tracks. The lane spacing is a design decision you should make early in the development of your base.

In my libraries, I have a slightly enhanced version of Loewchen's junction that avoids a train stopping if one train is turning in the circle and at the same time a train is just turning right.
