Inserters will not connect to container

I am creating a larger storage mod and inserters are not able to take items out of the continuers. I have looked at both the prototype/containers site and other people's mods such as krastorio 2 and 2x2 chest, and I cannot find any major flown my code compared to theirs. The inserters can be placed directly inside my container and I can stack an infinite amount of my containers on top of itself, but I cannot but it on top of larger objects such as a large rock, electric furnace, etc. I'm not sure if I need another set of eyes or what, but help would be greatly appreciated.

in the file there are 3 different items but I am currently working on the shelving unit item, the first two are behind that one in terms of development. I plan on fixing them after I get one working first.
