I already understand your points very well.

I think that the long horizontal shape would be more UPS efficient but haven't run any precise test.
In the end, it is difficult to properly measure which is better.
I want to maximize my research progress in REAL TIME.

So I would ask, how much would horizontal platforms that maintains 33kspm be UPS in reality?

Lowering the sailing speed will take more time to collect asteroids. This is because it is not as simple as it sounds: round trips take time, Biter egg spoilage issues, and the need to increase the numbers on smaller platforms.
So it is difficult to discuss in my poor English.

Only one way to know ! Make one by yourself x)

I think there is not a single answer, because there are different design philosophy possible for platforms.

Even if you use "horizontal", you can have situations where you have "many slow platforms" or "few fast platforms" to achieve the same result and it's not easy to guess only with intuition which is better for UPS.

Pictures or save game are ok too ! I remember you posted mega bases creations on this forum :)

Maybe there could be some sort of UPS challenge or test bench for platform, that's how i would test, use editor to create save game where you use infinite chest on planets to simulate a factory , and only benchmark the platforms for UPS, then change only the platforms conditions and compare.

I don't think the developers like having one answer, as beacon spam was weakened in 2.0. So am I.
I have no intention of actively seeking a correct answer on this matter.
Everyone should build their factories the way they want. The less clear the answer, the more fun it is.

Speed affects FPS for me, at least in space. This ship I get 60FPS at 600km/s, but at 1200km/s I get 30FPS. The FPS is always 60 when I am not looking at the ship.

The ship is very long with 60 layers of thrusters.

I understand you may be more interested in the technical answer of how to reduce particule update, when the gameplay answer shouldn't be unique as it's fun to explore various ways :) but I have no more help to provide regarding settings or technical. :? I hope you have some fun !
