[0.11.22] Game won't start on Mac OS/X 10.9.5

[0.11.22] Game won't start on Mac OS/X 10.9.5

As in the title, the game will not start on my mac, crashing with "unexpected error" at 10% of the loading screen, after the "loading mods" phase. I have created a config.ini in factorio.app/Contents/config with the following contents:

and the error persists. I have a 15 inch early 2011 mac running 10.9.5, 16GB ram, AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB graphics card. The games version is 0.11.22, which I have now downloaded twice.

Moving config.ini to /Users/<<username>>/Library/Application Support/factorio/config/config.ini fixed the issue.
