Hey there,
I bought this game yesterday and played around 5 hours now. I love the game, but there is one thing that seems to make everything I build void: What happens if the ores are empty? Is my whole base useless from that point? Everything I build to automate the research, etc.? I know there is a mod that makes the resources endless, but how does it work in vanilla?
Thanks!
If resources are ending - how to continue?
Re: If resources are ending - how to continue?
Usual strategy is to prepare smelting areas so that you can deliver ores by train.
Then you build remote mining outposts and use trains to bring in the resources to smelting area and continue production in the main base.

The map is nearly infinite socof you run out of resources in your starting area, you can just find another patch somewhere and bring it in via trains or belts. Building a radar is really helpful sense it reveals a large area of the map around you slowly, so you can see what resources available near by.
Hope this helps!

Yep. Practice your trains, they're super amazing for moving a LOT of stuff quickly. Don't be intimidated, it doesn't take that much iron to get your first train line going. Some of your early research topics are more expensive than a rail line, seriously.
Outpost:
- Run a rail line outside the outpost.
- Run a line of chests one tile away from the tracks.
- Cover every space of the outpost with drills
- Fill the chests with ore from the outpost.
- Use inserters to empty the chests on the tracks
Home:
- Run a rail line at home
- Run a line of chests one tile from the rail
- Use inserters to grab from the rail line into the chests
- Use inserters to empty the chests onto a conveyor
- Run the conveyor into your base
Train:
- Place rail stops on both ends (right handed).
- Place a 2 headed train with some cargo cars.
- Fuel it up on both sides (in the menu, or use inserters with a chest of fuel).
- Tell the train to go to both stations.
- Tell the train to start.
Optional: Jump in the train.
You now have a working train.
