Got run over by my trains again ... third time today.
Dosen'T helped much that the signals swiched as i was crossing the tracks.
I'd wish for a Railway crossing with automatic gates that would close as soon as a train enters
the block one or two blocks befor the crossing block.
If it's possible.

As an possible alternative/expanded idea:
(I hope this fits with the OP's idea of allowing safe passage across their rails)
Make it so that the player counts as a train on the line, and stepping on the track causing the surrounding signals to go red. Maybe it could be possible to mimic the gates anticipating approach and cause approaching the rails to make the blocks go yellow as well.

Nope, that isn'T nearly what i meant.
I don't want to rip up nearly 5000 tracks and replace them wit other 5000 tracks, where i've to build 12 trains anew, and i'm pretty sure 2 of my trains won't work, as they are Railtankers.

That should be possible with some entity spawning, and player teleporting(if player is on track)!
Though it would look quite weird having some stonewalls just suddenly appearing of of thin air and then disappearing when the train have passed :/

Why player teleporting?
When i play on the tracks by closed gates my fail
Wouldn't it be possible to use the gates from the base and let them close if a train enters a specific block befor the crossing an let them reopen if the train leafs the block with the crossing?
Edit: i don't want a fail save only some thing thats a bit safer then running across and hoping nothing comes

I think that perhaps something along the lines of a gate that is parallel to the track could be done. Interesting thought, and well worth some more though.
