Windows XP SP3 inside of Virtual Box

Post by Zhall »

Hey everyone,

I'm currently trying to run factorio on a windows 7 computer, but it is unable to update to SP1 for some reason.

I have attempted to install windows xp on a virtual machine, and the 32bit version of the game gives some issue about not being able to start the display (I can get the specific error message if needed)

The 64 bit version doesn't work, but I can indeed get the 64 bit version of windows xp if that will help.

Course of action? I really want to help my friend get this working on his computer!

Thanks

Running Factorio inside a virtual machine? I think it's a very bad idea.
Not installing latest service packs on Windows is also a bad idea, mind you.
But I believe people have been able to run Factorio on Win7 without SP1 with compatibility settings - I believe it should be set to Vista, but I'm not sure. If you search the forums I'm sure you'll find it, though.

I will try that, thanks. I've been looking for that desperately, and I will come back shortly if things go south :D

Edit:

Found this

You can play the game with "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)" compatibility mode to bypass the "service pack 1" required message.
