How do you remove items form the map

Is it possible to remove stuff like furnaces and poles (or any other structure i have built) from the map when they are no longer needed? And if so how?

Yes, sure. You "mine" them like ore fields.

Items laying around you pick up with "F" <--

i see you mean "right click and hold" - i didn't see anything about this in the key bindings though (i may have missed it but i did look before posting)

Items laying around you pick up with "Z" (at least in my locale/setup).

the default keyboard settings are:
- F for picking up items
- Z for dropping items (you're holding)

I assume you changed the assigned key because even other keyboard layouts use the same letter, just the key is on a different spot on the keyboard.

I'm currently on Factorio cold turkey, things just happen to get in the way...

For future reference if you ever want to clean up your space or storage area by eliminating the stuff you don't need any more (like Burner Miners or Stone Furnaces in the late game, or tons of wood you've accumulated by clearing forests), make a Wooden Box, put all the stuff you don't want any more in the box, then shoot it until it is destroyed.
