You should start with a power generator instead of having a burner inserter. The power generator should be a 2x2 sized fueled building producing about 100 kW of electricity, if possible also powering neighboured buildings without using electricity poles.
Inserters are robots with electronic/logic and definitely requiring electricity to function. Further burner inserters are of no use once you've got the electric network (although I believe noone uses them).

Re: Power Generator
There are you wrong. Due to the fact that they feed themselfs with burnables they also funktion if all other power is drained (for example when all of the lasers are fireing).Factoruser wrote:...(although I believe noone uses them).

And Factoruser, can you give us a use-case, why you think this is needed, or a good added game-value?

Maybe, but illogical. Burner inserters are slow and to fill again and again with fuel. A short downtime of your factories won't disturb you that much that you are giving up the faster electric inserters.Phillip_Lynx wrote:There are you wrong. The value is for example that you might also build tiny outposts without solar panels. It's needed if you remove burner inserters from the game: you might need perhaps some inserters and the ordinary power plant is relatively complicated to build. It's not very realistic that you have such a smart device like the burner inserter without any electronic, and further that compact. If you need a backup system for brownouts, you could also use power generators.ssilk wrote: And Factoruser, can you give us a use-case, why you think this is needed, or a good added game-value?

Re: Power Generator
There's no way burners are going to consume their fuel faster than burner inserters are capable of inserting fuel. They are more than sufficient to get the job done with the only risk of downtime being entirely running out of fuel.Factoruser wrote:Maybe, but illogical. If your drain on your electrical network is greater than your production then your inserters are going to slow down. This in turn will cause you to generate less power, spiraling out of control. This won't happen with burner inserters.
