Place a Burner Inserter with 1 Fuel in 1 click.

I love the Burner Inserters! I don't know why but I do. I use them wherever I can even late in game. But it can be a drag fueling 50+ Burner Inserters at a time. If they could be placed with fuel in them already it would be so nice!!!!!

On the other hand, having such a feature ingame would be really nice thing. The simpliest solution is just to spawn burners with some energy already, much like roboports do.

I think this is the best answer because of the many different fuels! (Raw wood,Coal,Solid fuel,Wood,Wooden chests and Small electric poles)

I suppose the main issue with them being placed starting with some energy in already is that they have no power buffer. And I'm not sure you can do that on burner power without scripts, which is something the devs want to avoid if possible. It would likely be just as easy to code in a new tag for it and add it to the burner inserter than it would be to script it.

Yes. They just need to be "born" with enough energy to be able to grab one piece of Coal (or Wood or Solid Fuel) to self-refuel. 1 Coal can fuel 47 moves of a Burner Inserter, so they need a bit under 2% of the energy in a piece of coal (8 MJ in Coal, so 2% is 0.16 MJ).

I don't want to use Burner Inserters all over the place, but I do like having a few as backups on my Boiler lines, and also sometimes I use a Coal/Ammo Transport Belt with Gun Turrets and Burner Inserters, instead of going for a powered Ammo Belt right away. Burner Inserters are also good for setting up Gun Turret clusters in remote places, where they can all get ammo from the same Chest, and if so they can grab a bit of fuel from it too.

It's just a total pain in the butt to have to manually fuel each and every Burner Inserter, in this context where they are placed next to a Transport Belt moving Coal (or other fuels)

The point of that suggestion was, that the burner stops, before it is unable to take the next piece of fuel, so you never need to refill it yourself.

Best solution to the problem. They should have enough energy to be able to make a few turns on their own directly after being placed so that they can pick any further fuel up themselves.

The now Torches mod, recently released, then updated for alpha 12, has the Torches being "born" with a full fuel bar so that they start providing light immediately when placed down.

So the guy making that mod seems to have discovered a method to make that happen, one that can presumably also be used to mod Burner Inserters. My preference would not be for them to be born with a full fuel bar, though, rather something like 10% full or so. Just enough that they can auto-refuel themselves from a Chest or a Belt.

By the time that refilling empty burners becomes a chore, this is the sort of problem that logistics bots could deal with. Fly in, drop one unit of fuel when empty.
