I'd really like to be able to build a slightly-more-expensive Iron Chest, maybe with the "added cost" of a basic ElectronicCircuit, where this new type of chest has an indicator light on it, off when the chest is empty, red when the chest is under 1/3 full, yellow when between 1/3 and 2/3 full, and green when over 2/3 full. Always relative to assigned capacity, e.g. if I close off all but 3 slots of a given chest, then it'll be green when 2 of those slots are full.
That way, I can see at a glance how my various buffer chests are doing, without having to mouse over them.
Fullness indicator light on Chests

That's actually really nice idea, making mod for that should be relatively nice. I think though it should be feature of every generic chest, not special one.
Re: Fullness indicator light on Chests
What is, when you set a stack-limit for the chest?
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Well, in that case it should be green when the 3rd slot is starting to get used (> 67% usage). But I think this would be better indicated by a small progress bar on the lower side of the chest, so that there are more than just 3 states visible.Peter34 wrote:Always relative to assigned capacity, e.g. if I close off all but 3 slots of a given chest, then it'll be green when 2 of those slots are full.
Re: Fullness indicator light on Chests
As I understand it right, this will be easy possible with the new smart devices in 0.12. Kovarex wrote in a FFF about an progress bar for chests, which can be simply added, like smart inserters.
I don't think this is useless, but it was often a good idea, to see, what's really needed. There is for example a similar idea for assemblies:
