Hexagonal map tiles...struppi wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2026 6:11 pm That just screems tabletop! So I asked AI to create a ruleset. I hope this enspires you and there will be an official ruleset some day![]()
Unplayable.
Tell AI to try again with a Factorio grid!
Re: Friday Facts #447 - Factorio that you can touch
I... I'm. Okay, that was unexpected.
You obviously could have made a lot of money selling the finished product instead, so it's pretty awesome to see you just giving this away. Especially since it sounds like it wasn't a trivial amount of work.
You have (perhaps rightly) caught a lot of flak the past year or so for the way feedback about Space Age was handled, so this was really cool to see. I can't wait to see the creative things people make with this.

Re: Friday Facts #447 - Factorio that you can touch
I accidentally bought a 3d printer this week, and then these come out? Awesome!
Re: Friday Facts #447 - Factorio that you can touch
Cool! I just wish the trains had been part of it.
If they had been, I'd be seriously considering looking into a print-on-demand service to get a locomotive and a couple of fluid wagons printed.

Check out your local library, many of them have 3D printers that are either free or cheap to print with. There are also stores where you can send the files and pay a small fee for them to do the printing for you.The-Zee-System wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2026 11:38 am What about us poors who can't afford all those painting materials and devices?? Are we just left to buying it from others on places like Etsy and hoping we get a good one that works?
As for painting, you are on your own, sorry.

Now, how do I automate the painting...
The collection must grow.

This it good. It's a step towards what I have been wanting since day one: a Factorio gear logo as keychain.
EDIT: I'm stupid. looks like fans already did it...

I do not own a 3D printer, nor the skills to hand paint such gorgeous pieces of art.
However, I am willing to pay for "collector's items" if Wube decides to partner up with such skilled craftsman to produce and offer for sale these items on your storefront. That market may be small, but the market does exist.

This was me a year ago. Then I 3D printed some things at the library for free and spent $40 on some cheap acrylic paints. After watching a few youtube videos, I was able to achieve an acceptable paint job.Fletch wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2026 1:13 pm I do not own a 3D printer, nor the skills to hand paint such gorgeous pieces of art.

You can do it. It won't be perfect, but it will be great!
@SquidmarMiniatures and @Zumikito were particularly helpful YouTube channels for me to learn.

Re: Friday Facts #447 - Factorio that you can touch
Thank you so much for the team for making the official set! Especially the assembly machine. I was looking around at other fan-made options a few weeks back, and the quality & resemblance to the in-game mechanical models were lacking, so seeing the Wube versions is wonderful.
Please do release the rest of the models! Pipes, Demolisher, wrigglers, etc. If there's not plans to continue to perfect them for the 'official release' quality, I wouldn't mind a folder of WIP/abandoned entities either.

Ohhhhhh, love this. (Yes, original creator of Cura slicing software approves of your models)
But, now, I have to remix the inserter to be larger and allow for micro servos so it can actually move...

I would love to see remix of inserter to function as a desk lamp.Daid wrote: Sun Sep 27, 2026 8:24 am Ohhhhhh, love this. (Yes, original creator of Cura slicing software approves of your models)

All of this wasted, useless plastic makes me sad.
