Launching rockets full of space platform foundations? Pfft, that's so 2.0. Let's build in space instead.

This is a late game design for when you have fusion power to make building those big-ass late game ships easier. No quality required.

In my experience this is very suboptimal. The asteroids spawn on the edges of the map and there is a huge void in each of the four quadrants.
So the chunks spent a long time just drifting through empty space and there seems to be some upper limit to how many can spawn.
You should get much more asteroids (and maybe even a tiny amount of fps/ups) by making a square and putting the collectors on the outside, it can be hollow.
Or the single best approach, if the extra conplexity of space flight are acceptable, is to just have a collector going back and forth between planets.

If you're playing the experimental, why not build platforms just to gather asteroids, have them send those to your factory platform, and have that bad boy pump out a bunch of space platforms? Better yet, why not make a space platform for mining asteroids and have it transfer the asteroids to your factory platform? Though sub-optimal, it's pretty crazy what those platforms can do.

I find making them in space is actually quite good? Its not like you need them constantly? I have a platform that makes some 15 platforms per minute. If you have it running in the background, you always have enough to build medium-sized ships...
