I attempted to change the side of the belt a inserter would place onto, while placed horizontally, facing a parallel moving belt. Instead of switching sides, the whole inserter rotated 180 degrees.
I checked to see if vertical inserters work properly and they do.
I repeated this 100% using four inserter types, also with each different tier belt.

This is not a bug. Inserters can not be told to drop on far/near lanes. Only when the drop position is ambiguous can you set left/right drop positions.

I believe you have misread the post. The complaint is not about near/far lanes, it is about relative-left and relative-right lanes, precisely the situation where you can choose the drop position.Rseding91 wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2026 2:11 am This is not a bug. However, even if I'm right, it's still not a bug.
I believe the OP is attempting to use the "flip horizontal" key (default H) to change the relative-left and relative-right behavior of the horizontal inserters, when they need to be using the "flip vertical" key (default V).
I think part of the confusion is that they accidentally reversed the order of their screenshots, so we're seeing the "after" picture before the "before" picture. The screenshots are named "bugreport2.png" and then "bugreport1.png".
