After looking at this for a few hours the only ways I found to unlock something as "researched" in factoriopedia are:
- for items and recipes: recipe is unlocked from start or via technology
- for entities/tiles/etc.: they are mentioned in a planet's autoplace list and the planet is unlocked
For items that don't have recipes it is easy enough to make hidden dummy recipes, but for entities that are not placed via item abusing to put them as autoplace feels a bit clunky and error-prone. Imagine an entity that only gets placed via script after some technology finished.
Ideally there would be a different way, like alternative_unlock_methods on entities or a new UnlockPrototypeInFactoriopediaModifier modifier for technologies.

I have a feeling this isnt implemented yet, but is there an ElementFilter flag for “visible” as well possible? Then choose-elem-buttons can be restricted to only visible as well. Unless there is a different gui element i should be using.

There is no such flag.
