[2.0.77] Game crashes when trying to open up save file.

Post by Nycter »

What did you do?
I launched the game from steam, then I tried to run the save file inside the game. It's singleplayer and on linux.

What happened?
The game showed it loading the save file, and when the loading bar was fully green, the game froze. An error pop-up showed up on my screen with the following text:

"Unexpected error occurred. If you're running the latest version of the game you can help us solve the problem by posting the contents of the log file on the Factorio forums. Please also include the save file(s), any mods you may be using, and any steps you know of to reproduce the crash.

Log file location: /home/prince/.factorio/factorio-current.log

Would you like to open the folder containing the log file?"

In the previous session when I was playing this save, I was on Aquilo doing normal activities like moving around, placing structures, etc. The game would occasionally crash every few hours. Figured this was from a dying CPU, and I've since switched to a different machine.

What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
I expected to be able to open the save file and be placed in the game.

Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
When trying to open the save file, it will always crash.

I am not using any mods but I am using the Space Age dlc

My other autosave files and my manual save files are all corrupted. I get this error (or something very similar) when trying to open them up: "Closing file /home/prince/.factorio/saves/Space Age First Run.zip/level.dat4 failed.
Reason: CRC check failed: The zip is corrupted.."

I realize that it is a hardware issue for these other saves, and I've since moved to another machine. However, for the attached save, the error is different, so I am hoping to recover it. It would really suck to have to start over on this 120+ hour save because of this problem.

Looking at the log file, it seems to have crashed because it tried placing a chunk really far away. I wonder if it's possible to just remove this chunk and continue playing. Thank you!

It's a bit flip, you need to replace your hardware.

Yes, I've already replaced it. I would like to recover the save file though. Is that possible?

_autosave1 and _autosave3 are corrupted zips so i cannot do anything with them. As for _autosave2, there was one bitflip in it making one of heat-pipes to be put way outside of reasonable map positions but there was also one unit that was corrupted not pointing at its enemy spawner. First corruption was easy to fix, second however was quite hard to fix as i had to somehow find which spawner was the correct one to link the unit back.

Could you try if this fixed save file loads fine for you?
