Visual indication of radar network connection

Post by half a cat »

TL;DR
Indicate signal connections between radars in map view.
What?
Show in map view that radars are connected to the same signal network. Preferably, visibility could be toggled. It could use the same graphics as logistic connections (the dashed lines between roboports).

Ideally connections would also be shown on ghosts under the player's cursor, before a building is placed.
Why?
Currently there is no visual indication of radar networks. This makes it cumbersome to build a radar network, since a player can't see whether a connection is present. It's possible to test a connection by looking at signals; still, there is no feedback about where to place a radar to ensure it is connected to its neighbor.

That's because position has nothing to do with radar circuit connections. Not in the way that you seem to be implying at least.

A radar that's connected to "surface" is connected to every other radar that's connected to "surface". So if two radars are on the same planet/platform and are set to "surface", they are connected. The position of the radars relative to each other is irrelevant, save for the fact that they must be on the same surface. So you don't really need a visual indicator to "ensure it is connected to its neighbor".

The same goes for radars set to a "universal" channel. Any radar on any surface that's set to the same channel is connected to any other radar on any surface set to the same channel. Position is completely irrelevant; the only thing that matters is the universal channel.
