[2.1.11] Standalone mod manager has no button to bookmark mods

Post by TheDaud »

I searched the Bug Reports forum for “bookmark”, “bookmarks”, “bookmark button”, “mod portal bookmark”, and “standalone bookmark” and did not find an existing report matching this problem.

What did I do?

1. I downloaded and installed the full Linux Space Age build of Factorio 2.1.11 directly from factorio.com.
2. I authenticated with my Factorio account.
3. I launched the standalone build with a custom --mod-directory.
4. From the main menu, I opened Mods, selected the Install tab, and selected mods while looking for the control used to add or remove them from my mod-portal bookmarks.

What happened?

The mod manager downloaded my bookmark data, as shown by the /api/bookmarks request in the attached log, but it did not display a button or other control for adding the selected mod to my bookmarks.

I can browse and install mods, but I cannot maintain my mod-portal bookmark list from this version of the game. This happens for every mod I select and every time I open the mod manager.

What did I expect to happen?

I expected the mod details to provide the same bookmark control that is available when I use the Steam-distributed version of Factorio. An authenticated player should be able to add or remove a mod from the account’s bookmarks regardless of whether the game was obtained directly from factorio.com or through Steam.

Comparison and scope

On the same computer (Human edit 1: "... Running Windows 10", is this just a linux limitation as I noticed the steam launched Linux 2.0.77 build also lacks bookmark button despite steam cloud populating modlist), the Steam-distributed 2.0.77 build provides the bookmark workflow, while the standalone 2.1.11 build does not. Because these are different game versions, I cannot conclusively determine whether this is a standalone-package difference or a regression in the 2.1 mod-manager interface. The attached log also records the custom --mod-directory argument in case that affects the interface.

This report concerns only the missing bookmark control.

Impact

This is not merely cosmetic for users who maintain substantial mod lists. Bookmarks are currently one of the few basic tools available for curating mods across sessions. Without the button, editing a mod list through the mod portal becomes unnecessarily fragmented and considerably more laborious.

Factorio serves a six-figure mod-user community, yet the native mod-management interface still lacks broader organisational facilities such as named bookmark sets, folders, or reusable modsets. I understand that those larger features require separate design decisions and are not the subject of this bug report. However, that makes preservation of the existing bookmark workflow more important, not less.

It is difficult to reconcile a consumer-first approach with a situation where customers using the first-party, directly distributed build receive a weaker mod-management workflow than customers launching the game through a third-party platform. I am not assuming that this disparity is intentional, and I appreciate that it may be a straightforward regression or conditional-UI mistake. Please restore feature parity or clarify whether the missing control is intentional.

Frequency

Always in the tested standalone 2.1.11 configuration.

I am unable to reproduce. I launched the standalone 2.1.11 space age build, logged in, and I can see the bookmark button just fine.
