Good afternoon, i was hoping i could get some info on this. now yes, i understand pyanadons is not perfectly accurate, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but this seems sort of obvious.
why exactly does raw coal processing produce iron oxide???
from the little i know on the subject, this should be the opposite, with coke being used to process iron oxide, not it being produced by processing coal.
although the tar and coal gas is moderately accurate.
i was also told pyanadons is a chemical engineer of some sort, or at least knows quite a bit, so I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.
could someone explain?

Re: pyanadons coal processing accuracy questions
Iron Oxide is present in naturally-occuring (Earth) coal, usually less than 5% by weight. It is present in the fly ash produced by burning, alongside Silicon and Aluminum oxides.john factorio wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2026 7:49 pmwhy exactly does raw coal processing produce iron oxide???
In-Mod, it can be smelted into Iron Plates.

yeah looks like i was researching the wrong type of coal and not considering that pyanadons "raw coal" would simply be naturally occurring which to be fair makes total sense.
Thanks!
