Bugs that are actually features.

[2.1.9] Space platforms can request non-items

Post by DeHackEd »

Nearest I can tell, if you can put it into your cursor, you can set a request for that on a space platform. That includes fluids, planets, and anything in the "Virtual Signals" list.

Does that keep the "all requests are met" ship schedule from being completed?

It is a useful tool to be able to send messages from platform to silo without actually sending items. You could get around it by requesting unusual items that you were sure not to have in inventory but being able to use non-items is cleaner.
My own personal Factorio super-power - running out of power.

Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this.
Doctor: Don't do that then.

What is the problem with this behavior? (does something break) Allowing a user to do something that will never get completed happens all over the game. I can set recipes for things I don't have ingredients for, set conditions in circuits that can never be true, etc.

What would be the fix here? Would you prevent requests from all signals that don't have an item? Would you still show them in the logistic groups? What if the logistic group is shared with constant combinators and it's meaningful there?

This seems like a harmless natural extension of the system worked as designed.

It started off with "I need to change the planet for many requests, I will put the planet on my cursor to quickly fill things in and just start clicking the requests... wait, what just happened?"

No, it's not actually requesting the items from the planets nor is it preventing departure conditions. The sharing of groups with combinators makes sense in retrospect, but at first it seemed weird.

This doesn't actually happen. Since they're not really requests, they don't show up on the silo's circuit signals either.
