First one up with the cargo landing pad and requesting from orbit - I think I have things set up properly finally with a Space Science station sitting in orbit around Nauvis.
I've created a landing pad, have a Constant Combinator that controls the amount of items required in the logistic network on Nauvis, and then a steel chest to load into via inserter, and then after that, a series of filtered inserters so that each item in a 'family' of items is sorted into its own Passive Provider chest. Finally, I have Arithmetic Combinator that subtracts the current count in the Passive Provider chests from the Constant Combinator 'control' and sends that signal to the Cargo Landing Pad and...
It works from all I can tell so long as I check 'unload' next to it's Planet Stop even if its not actively running a planetary route. I'm also making some space platform up there (don't ask about me shooting cooper cables into space, it's cause I can and like having the space things built in space to keep them out of my face. It silly but true) and it sends them down to the surface, and then is taken from the Passive Provider chest by logistic bot to a launch pad to be loaded when the rocket is done. Same for the other Space Platform buildings - they are sent to Nauvis, unloaded via filtered inserted from the cargo landing pad and filed into their respective Passive Provider chest by filtered inserter.
So here's the question: Is this the normal way to request orbital items on a platform/ship and not get overwhelmed by beyond-Nauvis Cargo in your Nauvis supply chain? And avoid blunt methods like setting the item in question to 0 on the space platform? I thought it was too simple to work, but it did? Will this continue to work in most other cases too? I just wanted to avoid runaway cargo drops.
Do I have this right? My ongoing questions in the Space Age
Re: Do I have this right? My ongoing questions in the Space Age
The Landing Pad itself functions as a Provider Chest to the on-Planet Logistics Network. No extra Chests, Inserters, or Combinators are required.
Good Luck!

Thanks! I realized that at the outset but didn't figure a way to control for a small buffer of 'Space Stuff' on Nauvis, where it seems like requests from orbiting platforms is much more 'on demand' to specific requests without that formality.eugenekay wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2026 12:57 am The Landing Pad itself functions as a Provider Chest to the on-Planet Logistics Network.
