[2.1.7] landmine does not output signal, work as advertised

Post by untra »

This is half bug report half feature request. We are so close here.

1. What did you do?
I made the circuit network connection from the landmine as advertised in FFF-443 , connecting two landmines to a circuit network.

2. What happened?

It made the circuit connection, and showed the same interface seen in FFF-443 , however no signals were sent to the circuit network.

3. What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
I expected there to be two |landmine| signals visible on the circuit network, indicating I have two armed and live landmines on the network. Although it visibly looks like the advertised screenshot, in the FFF-443 it says:
Land mine was less of a "Why?" and more of a "Why not?"... but it makes itself quite useful as a tripwire or enemy detector.
I think landmines can only be enabled/disabled by the circuit network, but they cant work as an enemy detector right now.

I have been excited to build a circuit network connected tripwire alarm, but this can only work if the landmine can send a singular "armed" signal . Then when the landmine triggers it can change the circuit network, working like a tripwire. This is fixable by having the landmine specify a signal to send indicating armed on the output network. Should be a very tasteful, straightforward fix.

You use it like an actual tripwire. Connect a whole chain of mines in series with a single wire, put a constant combinator at one end and read the signal at the opposite end. When a mine goes off the wire will be broken causing the signal to go away.

_facepalm_ okay this strategy makes more sense now. It changes how I thought the landmine enemy detection circuit signal would ever work. Classic Factorio making me think about systems differently.

I guess my only other feedback would be to change the text of the landmine "Enable if" circuit network box to "Detonate when" or some other word choice to indicate sending the circuit signal explodes the landmine, not actually enabling arming / disabling disarming. The "Enable if" text is consistent with other entities on the circuit network made toggleable, but there is something unique about an entity that being "enabled" destroys it.

Either way this bug may be closed now. Thank you.
