[2.0.76] production data deleted when surface is deleted

Post by -DeadlyKitten »

When a surface is deleted, the production graphs and energy graphs for this surface are also deleted and no longer show up in the global production data
I initaly found this issue when playing the mod warp drive machine where this issue criples the usefulness of the production graphs and the energy graphs. I have replicated the issue in space age where it also appears due to the ability to delete space platforms.
What did you do?
deleted a surface that had production on it
What happened?
the statistics from the deleted surface no longer appear in the Global Statistics for production or for teleported electric networks
What did you expect to happen instead?
for Global Statistics to include statistics from surfaces that no longer exist
Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
always
details replication instructions
download the attached save (it includes the editor extensions mod for ease of reproduction but is not required for the issue to appear).

open the production graph with 'p' and click the Global Statistics checkbox.

observe that there are a significant number of iron gears produced per min.

go into map view and look at the space platform Auran Fox.

click the space platform hub and delete the space platform.

wait 5 mins for the space hub to be deleted for real (editor mode time speed up can make this go by faster)

open the production graph with 'p' and click the Global Statistics checkbox.

observe that there have never been any iron gears produced in the history of time, despite the fact that there were several there earlier.

Thanks for the report however this is working as intended. Production statistics are stored per surface and when the surface is deleted they are removed. The “global” view is an immediate merged view of all surfaces and does not exist outside of the surface itself.

Electric network statistics are stored on the network itself. In the case of platforms that is on the surface itself and if the surface is removed then so is the network.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

I'll note that mods can copy production statistics onto some other surface before the surface is deleted. You can suggest this solution to the mod author.

The electric network is a mod issue. The production data is very much not a mod issue. As shown, it affects base game too, in a way that would be very confusing for a player trying to look at their history. (deleting the starter space science platform production is quite reasonable to do, after you have a new one)

The solution I was expecting was to add an additional 'surface' worth of production data for housing the data of the deleted surfaces. it costs very little update time to keep a single surface of production data moving, no need to add the production of each machine to it. It is still there to be looked at when the Global Stastics checkbox is pressed, for a very low ups cost and a few extra addition ops when deleting a surface.

Please fix this. There are a large number of scenarios, in both the base game and in mods, that will run into this. it would be much better to have this fixed in the base game, instead of requiring every mod to solve this there own way, and leaving base game players confused about where their production went.
