Hide Arithmetic Combinator overlays

Is there are way to hide the overlays, when using an arithmetic combinator for a mod?
I would like to either get rid of the arrows or move them to fit a 1x1 entity.

There is an interface setting for combinator arrows in alt mode. You can't just make combinators 1x1, but it might be possible to fake it by using more entities.
