be able to make folders for your mods

i have been playing factorio and always hated setting up new mods becuase its a pain to find all the little things like maybe forgetting a few mods or forgetting what they are called and i thought that folders would help sort it out and be less messy to sort through it

You've afaik always been able to do this from the command line, startup option (on steam launch option) `--mod-directory` iirc.

I'd like it if the engine would or could keep the installed mods separate from the mod selection and settings, on linux you can kinda do it with symlinks but it's messy and annoying.
