Highly productive but expensive (recipe, energy consumption) lab

Post by Bömmeli »

Hey guys,

inspired by the dark matter replicator mod, I had the idea of a highly productive, but expensive lab.

Graphics: electromagnetic plant
Recipe:
  • 400 electronic circuit
  • 200 advanced circuit
  • 100 processing unit
  • 100 express transport belt
  • 10 bulk inserter
  • 10 productivity module 3
Research speed: 1
Module slots: none
Base productivity: 900% (so 1 science pack become 10)
Energy consumption:
  • 100 MW idle
  • 1 GW working

It feels balanced, but is it?
And is it technical possible?

No.

Yes.

You could spent a few minutes asking any AI to create such a simple mod.

Thank you for your reply.

No.
Could you explain why you disagree?
I thought simple and expensive would be a fair trade off vs. complex and cheap.

Is it because efficeny modules in beacons could make it too cheap? Should it be 10 GW instead of 1, to force the use of beacons?

Energy is cheap. Initial cost is paid only once. Crazy productivity value for a lab (machine on the very top of most production chains) will overweight any energy and starting material cost.
Btw, machines without module slots are not affected by beacons at all. This hurts this lab much more than energy cost. Still it is OP and boring.

So without a own module slot, the lab couldn't be "cheated" by beacons? Thank you for this information. I didn't know yet

Sure, energy is generally cheap. But 1GW would be the equivalent of 8,33 nuclear reactors with 2 neighbors, or 25 heating towers / nuclear reactors without neighbors, or 555,56 boilers... just to run one slow lab.

I thought this is so expensive, that nobody would replace all normals labs with these one. In my opinion it would be an addition to the normal labs, just to utilize exessive energy in a sensible way.

Nevertheless thank you for your feedback. I'll rethink my idea
