possible to downgrade factorio version in order to play old mods?

Post by nikimilky »

I want to try IR3, but I have factorio 2.0

I noticed IR3 is lastly updated for 1.1
I know there is fix/hack/work-around, but I am not very technical-educated. I prefer the easiest and most stright-forward way to do it.

If you use the Steam version, go to your Steam library and open the Factorio properties. Select the versions and beta tab and select the game version you want to use. This will downgrade your Factorio install accordingly.

Or you can go to the download section of the Factorio website and click the "Download old versions" button at the bottom of that section. Download and install into some directory separate from your existing install to be able to run both versions side by side.

I'd strongly advise to not downgrade versions through steam and instead do the parallel install method. If you downgrade, the blueprint library and potentially the settings file will become unreadable.

The non-steam version is my preferred one (I dont have and I am not using steam). Thats an excellent solution, thank you.

The easiest way, if you have an account on Factorio.com, is to download the .zip version you want.

You can unzip it to a directory of your choosing and then play.

You don't even have to "downgrade"; you can keep both versions on your system.

In fact, if you have several different overhaul mods you play at different times, you can get a .zip version for each of them (whether an older version or the most recent) and set up a different mod on each one, so you don't have the change-mods-and-reload step.

You can have as many .zip versions on your system as you like (and as you have room for).
