"Couldn't initialize audio, audio is disabled" (macOS)

Post by PetWolverine »

I'm encountering an error message, "Couldn't initialize audio, audio is disabled" when launching the game. I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.4 on a mid-2011 iMac. I'm not using Steam.

I've found threads about similar issues on Linux, but the solutions don't seem applicable to macOS.

I just got the game a few days ago and have already played it for a couple dozen hours, all in eerie silence. I've tried both the stable and the experimental version, and just updated from 0.15.9 to 0.15.10 with the same result.

It's a great game, but it would be even better with sound!

Here's a fresh log from 0.15.17. I was going to upload it for a bug report about the crash, but it appears that several others have already reported it. The errors regarding audio have changed a little, though.

it's... a bit of time later but I've been encountering this issue also on my m4 mac running Tahoe 26 using a Mac Studio external display with audio set to the mac studio. Changing the audio output to mac speakers causes an outright crash

It happens intermittently and it has happened with mods and without mods for at least a few months, though I think only with an external display connected. Once it happens once though, it happens every time even after restarting factorio, I need to restart mac OS to get sound back up

Running 2.0.76
