Implicitly enabled mods

Post by curiosity »

When the player enables a mod in the mod manager, all required and disabled mods become implicitly enabled.

When the player installs a mod, any automatically downloaded dependencies become implicitly enabled.

When the player disables a mod (including the implicitly enabled ones), all unnecessary implicitly enabled mods become disabled.

This new mechanic will mean the player won't have to track down every single dependency when they want to disable a mod.

The second line is how it currently behaves. The third line is the new, complicated behavior being requested. But the first line is not entirely true as of 2.0.76.

The current behavior is that when a new mod is downloaded, it is automatically enabled. Any of its dependencies that are not yet installed are downloaded and enabled. BUT any dependencies that are installed but DISabled are NOT automatically enabled when the new mod is downloaded and enabled. This is annoying because now it results in a "Mod configuration invalid" dialog box with no information on which mods are missing dependencies.

This behavior was reported as a bug and called a feature request in 2024: viewtopic.php?p=636821&hilit=enable+dependency#p636821

The same behavior was reported again in 2025 and moved to the "Assigned" folder: viewtopic.php?p=667505&hilit=enable+dependency#p667505

This behavior *might* be fixed in 2.1 as part of the following thread, but not sure: viewtopic.php?p=682740&hilit=enable+dependency#p682740
My mods: Multiple Unit Train Control, RGB Pipes, Shipping Containers, Rocket Log, Smart Artillery Wagons.
Maintainer of Auto Deconstruct, Cargo Ships, Vehicle Wagon, Honk, Shortwave.
