One idea that could be balanced and also add a fun challenge: space platforms get signals from *all* the planets, with their values scaled by the inverse square of their distance. It could even work as some sort of solar system GPS...

I know that planets do not have actual positions in 3D space, but it would add to the challenge to have to decode the signals. Apply some real-world signal processing! A simpler version would be to simply interpolate between the signals of the planets being flown across.

Planets would not get any signals from space, in this version; it would be one-way only.
