[raiguard] [2.0.43] Mod Update the Dependency links are misbehaving.

Post by credomane »

With the release of Bob's mods 2.0 I went to update the mods today and start a bobmod 2.0 run.
Anyways, this is my current list of mods to update.

While playing with this bug I updated boblibrary and bobinserters already then restarted factorio. So that is why they aren't in the updates list.

So while on the updates tab selected a mod. I'll pick Aircraft for this little demo but it doesn't matter which.

Aircraft has an optional dependency on boblibrary. Click that to go to boblibrary. It switches to the Explore tab and opens boblibrary. While it is the correct mod it isn't what I expected. I expected to go to the installed tab and have the boblibrary mod selected. Now if boblibrary wasn't installed then I would expect to have it go to the explore tab. This would make it behave the same way the install tab does. Mod installed then selected it in the install tab, otherwise open the mod in the explore tab. Not a big deal but kinda annoying having to find the already installed mod manually in the installed tab so you can enable it and it would be nice to have it consistent with the install tab's behavior. Thought it worth pointing out but this isn't the reason for the bug report just something I ran across while working on this bug report.

Now for the actual issue:

So back on the Aircraft mod on the updates tab. Click on bobplates in the dependencies list. Instead of bobplates getting selected on the updates tab it selects bobmining instead (in my case anyways).
Same for if you click on the "Artisian Reskin: Bob's mod" then click on reskins-library it will jump to "Rate Calculator" at the bottom of the list.
More of the same if you keep clicking around on the different bob mods and their associated bob mod dependencies.

The expected behavior, imo, would be to 1st select the correct mod on the updates page if it is there, then try to select the mod on the installed tab and finally the explore tab if all else fails.

Would you be able to provide a zip of the mods needed to reproduce this? I'm having a difficult time understanding the exact required set of installed mods and steps to reproduce the issue(s) mentioned.

They are all in the picture.

Click on the aircraft mod as shown in the picture. Where it lists "bobplates" on the right as an optional dependency click that little grey arrow.

Instead of factorio selecting the "bobplates" mod it is going to jump to some other random mod from the list instead. This issue isn't anything to do with this specific mods. It only seems to happen on the updates tab when the mod you are jumping too is also listed on the updates tab.

Sorry I haven't been on the forums in a while. I'll check and see if this is still happening in 2.0.72 and try to grab a recording with OBS.

I'd specifically like the mods directory containing the old mods that need updating since I have no idea which version(s) you have locally when trying to reproduce this, and trying to figure out which mods I can install, that then need updates - that also make this happen - has not worked for me.

Oh. I gotcha. That was so long ago and so many mod and factorio updates since then. I'll see if I can reproduce this at all in 2.0.72 with a batch of mods and provide a zip file with them for you. Entirely possible this got fixed due to something else a long time ago.

Well, I reproduced it in 2.0.72 using my current mod folder which is 8GB of mods and I really don't want to upload all of that if I really don't have too. Most of them are disabled anyways.

Here is a video of what I'm referring to in action recorded with OBS. Perhaps that provides enough of a hint to you for what is going on.
1. I click on Rubia Assets and show you the link to the mod portal with the mods name rubia-assets.
2. I click on Planet Rubia
3. Move my mouse over rubia-assets in the mod dependency list and click that little arrow button.
4. Factorio did NOT go to the right mod it went to Planet Vesta instead.

I ended the video there but if you want there are more mods on that page that will do the same thing.
Planet Vesta depends on Planet Vesta Assets click that arrow button and it will again jump to the entirely wrong mod.
Redrawn Space Connections optional depends on Outer Rim. Again jumps to wrong mod.
Yuoki Industries - Engines depends on Yuoki Industries but that arrow goes no where but I'm sure if the mod list was a little different it would also jump to a completely wrong mod.

It seems to me that if any mod on the updates tab depends on another mod that is also on the updates page you can pretty much guarantee it will jump to the wrong mod on the updates tab.

I uploaded my mod-list.json (from the mods directory and a mods-list.txt (created with `ls -1 > mods-list.txt` in the mods directory)

I'll make a copy and try to delete mods until I do get a minimal reproducible example.

The other thing I was talking about that isn't that big of a deal is shown here:
Video starts on the manage tab with a search for PlanetsLib (completely irrelevant but helps to highlight the issue). If I go to the updates tab and click on Planet Rubia then on the arrow for PlanetsLib in the dependency list it takes me to PlanetsLib in the explore tab instead of the manage tab. Again not a big deal at all just something I noticed while trying to explain / reproduce the primary issue.

Thanks. I was able to reproduce it using some of the mods shown in the video and found and fixed the underlying issue for the next release.

Awesome. I'll stop narrowing down the list of mods then and focus on my other really old bug report. So glad I finally learned OBS. Makes things a lot easier to explain than just with words.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
