Scale Roboport Supply Area and Construction Area with quality

Post by Sarati »

I see no reason why the quality of roboports shouldn't also increase the coverage area. Please add this feature as it is getting difficult to build without it. I am having to resort to either building with spidertrons or building my sub-factories in chunks just because my factories are bigger than the size of a 2x2 roboport grid. I am also fairly confident this wouldn't be a hard or game breaking change seen as the coverage area can be easily changed in the config file.

+1 from me. Turrets and power lines both get better range, so it seems weird to me that roboports don't.

Make roboport areas scale with quality

Post by jirkacapek123 »

TL;DR
Make roboport construction and logistic area scale with roboport quality

What?
I suggest to make roboport construction and logistic areas scale with quality, for now this is only possible with a mod that makes every quality a different entity which is confusing and having it in vanilla would be awesome
Why?
It makes the incentive to craft higher quality roboports higher, and also it's a great QOL addition.

This is not a good idea, since it can break set ups that rely on the logistics area being a specific size. It would turn higher quality roboports from being a simple drop in replacement to one where you have to adjust the build to make sure that areas that are supposed to be disconnected stay that way.

You could say the same about power poles

It's not quite the same, though. Power poles don't have any other relevant stats than coverage range and wire connection range. Roboports have charging speed. Further, there are more reasons for separating logistics networks that separating power networks.

And additionally you can manually disconnect power poles you don't want wire connections between.

And there are other tricks. I actually surround my isolated networks with a circle of big power poles, so if I place additional power poles too close to the isolated area, they'll connect to the circle of big power poles rather than to the isolated network.

To be honest you do have a point, but couldn't just being able to disconnect roboports on a keypress solve both problems? So the area could be scaled with quality and you could still have separate networks even with the new bigger areas?

But you could say this about all quality items, higher quality machines make more while occupying the same space so you are more likely to have to rebuild your factory to have the right ratios. The same with modules, well at least for the speed and productivity ones.
