[2.0.66-1] Corrupted Save

Post by AlexCwik »

Error:

Code: Select all

Closing file ~/.factorio/saves/[SpaceAge] - __ 01 - 062.zip/level.dat78 failed.
Reason: CRC check failed: The zip is corrupted..
Overall steps:
  1. Saved my game
  2. Closed Factorio
  3. Put my computer to sleep
  4. Several hours later, woke my computer up
  5. Started Factorio
  6. Attempted to load my save
I expected that my game would load my save and allow me to continue playing. Instead, I got the above error.

All I was doing before closing my game was watching Kovarex Enrichment spool up, so I could get a bunch of U-235 for some Biolabs.

Looking at the preview pic, I did save while in a Spidertron.

Log is attached.

I thought I created this post under Bug Reports. Did I put it in the wrong forum, or was it moved?

Can you reproduce the corruption?

Reason: CRC check failed: The zip is corrupted.
This means it was corrupt after the game told the operating system to save it to disk. The only known way for that to happen is failing hardware (RAM, SSD/HDD, or CPU). So in that regard: there's no bug here for us to work on and the topic was put into technical help so someone might be able to help you diagnose which piece of hardware is going/has gone bad.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

I tried, briefly, getting into a spidertron in the previous autosave, and then saving/loading. It loaded fine, so I'm not sure what I did, if anything.

This is likely caused by unstable hardware, see 114778. You should consider replacing your machine.

Ah. Right. CRC check. Meaning it's not an issue with the savegame itself being messed up - it's that the serialized data itself had an error introduced, and doesn't match what the game told the OS to save.

Yeah, it would make sense that it's probably a hardware problem. Which is not surprising - the CPU & motherboard are probably...15 years old at this point? I did recently (~last 1-2 years) replace my drive with an SSD, iirc.

Do couple of hours of Memtest86+ (https://memtest.org/), to ensure memory is stable. RAM is used as a buffer for saved files, so the cause of CRC inconsistency can lie there.
