[2.0.66] Water settings does not disable proper achievements

Post by Hellequin »

Hi all.

Technically, it’s not exactly a bug, but it follows the general logic of disabling certain achievements. At the moment, the “Express Delivery” and others that depend on enemies are disabled if you increase tree coverage, reduce pollution, adjust enemy settings, change the starting area size, and so on, since all of this reduces overall enemy aggressiveness.

However, I found a way to create an almost-peaceful mode without using any of the above. To do this, it’s enough to reduce the water scale and increase coverage so that the player’s starting location become an island. If you also set the resources size and richness to maximum, the starting island provides all the necessary Nauvis resources for completing the game, except uranium. Still, this makes it possible to completely ignore the biters (I placed an outpost on a uranium patch, built a wall, dumped 2000 rounds of ammo there, and forgot about it until the end of the game), skip building base defenses, and research military technologies only for destroying asteroids.

Here is my galaxy of fame. I finished the game on version 2.0.60, but I just checked on 2.0.66, and changing the water settings still doesn’t disable achievements (the warning still appears if I change other settings).

Thanks for the report. I will classify this as a Not a bug.

Intention with restricting some achievements is to rule out some obvious abuses that make the game easier, however with the water coverage it is not instantly obvious that the game will become easier, one could say it becomes harder since you get no access to other resources or that you are still affected by biters if you decide to landfill your path to the other ground. I do not think putting too tight restrictions on every single slider would be beneficial as in the extreme version all achievements would get disallowed when playing anything non default and the main point of map generator settings is to allow for adjusting game slightly so it is more fun for your play style.
