[2.0.65] Centrifuges have no defined weight, and therefore have a rocket capacity of 1

Bugs that are actually features.

[2.0.65] Centrifuges have no defined weight, and therefore have a rocket capacity of 1

Post by Samario »

While I understand that centrifuges have no uses outside of Nauvis, and this is an inconsistency moreso than anything else, it does stand out as rather out of place compared to all other production buildings that have defined weights and defined rocket capacity of (5~50 depending on the building) - could this be set to, like, maybe 10 to fit with the rest of the "advanced" nauvis buildings (chemical plant, oil refinery)?

This seems Intentional? The Recipe for a Centrifuge is 100 Red Circuits (100kg) + 100 Concrete (1000kg) + 100 Gears (100kg) + 50 Steel (125kg) = 1,325kg. The resulting Item weighing "only" 1 Ton seems like a pretty good economization! The math for a Nuclear Reactor is even more comical, requiring 5 Tons of Concrete but still resulting in an Item that is only 1 Ton.

Meanwhile, the components for an "Assembling Machine 1" weight approximately 15.5kg; the resulting Item has a weight of 20kg. I cannot explain where the additional mass comes from, but it does demonstrate that there is at least some level of Balance.

In any case, you are correct that the Centrifuge Definition does not explicitly state the item's "Weight" (whereas it is defined for Nuclear Reactors); so the Weight Calculation methodology is used instead. This seems to be clamped to the rocket_lift_weight anyway?

Centrifuges also do not have any Surface Crafting Conditions - unlike the Space-Age specific advanced crafting buildings. If you have a Space Uranium Mod you can just as easily craft them right on the Platform; no Rocket Launches necessary.

Good Luck!

The "no defined weight" is the notable bug in this instance, as it's the only obtainable vanilla/SA item that I can think of that does not have one

Thanks for the report however something not having weight explicitly defined is not a bug. As mentioned, if weight is not explicitly defined it uses the computed method.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
