Better RSS feed for news posts

Post by max.nordlund »

Hi,
I use a RSS reader to keep up with news from Factorio, but it only shows the first couple of sentences. I would like to get all of the post in the RSS feed. I'm sure this is just a setting somewhere, or something that is easy to do.

Thanks

Which RSSs do you use?

I am watching

Code: Select all

1) https://forums.factorio.com/forum/feed.php?mode=topics
2) https://forums.factorio.com/forum/feed.php?f=38
3) https://forums.factorio.com/forum/feed.php?f=3
The first one gives first post for each thread + link to the thread
Second gives all posts in the Updates/News thread (not sure which is which after the rename)
Third _ gives all posts in the News/Updates thread (not sure which is which after the rename)

The current option "1)" is imperfect, becase
a) Topics from all (sub)boards get mixed up, so I can't priority-read some boards.
b) I'm getting flooded with the modding board topics I rarely care about.

It would be really nice if I could get option "1)" for selected board(s) only.

PS: It's possible to get all posts for all boards of course.
But note that the server has a limit how many items it's willing to send.
I have lost some posts in my 2nd and 3rd feed during the MP release, because
"even more than 2x the limit" of posts were created in those sub-boards in the default update interval of 24 hours.
For "all posts everywhere" it's going to be far worse.

It would be nice if somebody turned on the news mode in ATOM feed.

Is that something that could simply be turned on?

Yes, there should be option in forum settings. "Enable forums feed"

"News feed = Feed that shows first post of the topics in selected forums.
URL = feed.php?mode=news"
That's convenient for automatic check and post news about new game version, new mods, etc.

So this "news" mode is the same as the "topics" mode,
but it allows for a (sub)forum to be specified?

I agree that would be very useful.

Can "news mode" be enabled?

Thanks for the input. I have (hopefully) enabled the news mode.

I was hoping to create a NEWS mode feed for "General"
The phpBB documentation said "Feed that shows first post of the topics in selected forums."
But at the same time it says that the URL is "feed.php?mode=news"
I guess I'm not the one who gets to select the forums?
