On the survivability of Biters in Space Age

Post by Blaster »

So, I recently found out that biters can hatch in space. I also recently found out that biters hatching in space means they destroy the spaceship. Wondering why they didn't immediately die due to being, well, in space, I went and dropped a few eggs down on Vulcanus.

Biters seem perfectly fine with chilling on the pressure cooker world of Volcanus.

Did I misread something in a previous FFF or are biters the cockroaches of the Nauvis system, able to survive everywhere?

I'm going to have to test this on other planets too.

Have you tried putting the eggs into lava ? because that's a way to get rid of them :D otherwise they seem to survive almost everywhere but aren't able to create nests in such places.

They are able to survive in Gleba, if your factory that produces overgrowth soil has a problem, and the imported eggs start hatching, you can use this as a pretext for science, i still don't have all the datas to know if they get along with the local fauna.

I've seen some insanely stupid and contrived gameplay decisions in the past, but this is easily in the top 10.

Yes, I have confirmed that biters do take damage from lightning on Fulgora!

So are we though, even without any armor on, just a safety helmet. Biters seem a lot tougher than me...

For biters, the space survivability is really the only strange thing here. Well, obviously the hub has life support or we couldn't survive the trip, so eggs will also be fine in there. All they really need is the ability to hold their breath long enough to destroy the ship, which seems not too unreasonable then.

it wouldnt be if they could survive underwater. but they cant. if you put them in water with something like the editor they die instantly.

It's completely unacceptable as was said in FFF 431:
The Biolab can be used only on Nauvis as the organism inside would die on other planets
The organism is clearly biter based and so should be able to survive anywhere biters can.
