Here's a link to the savegame
I've searched far and wide, apart from the starting coal and tungsten there's none. I should have found some by now.
I did wonder if the mod that recolours coal on vulcanus would affect it but if that were the case, I wouldn't have my starting coal patch.
Likewise, no mods changing tungsten.
N.B. I have one mod in there that's not in the factorio library, a friend is working on it. It does the same https://mods.factorio.com/mod/SolarFarm but doing the same to the KS power stations. Again, not a mod that changes ore.
I did set the ore spawn to minimal, but even so, I should have seen one by now.
Next to no Tungsten nor Coal on Vulcanus?
Re: Next to no Tungsten nor Coal on Vulcanus?
You configured these map gen settings, and you got what you configured. You did not only set every patch to its minimum frequency, you also maxed Vulcanus volcanism, so if there was one of the very rare patches generated, most of them are actually not generated because they're generated in one of the large lava seas resulting from volcanism.
I saw one single coal patch NE, but that's all. The top horizontal electric line vaguely points to it, distance is 2 times the horizontal line. I'm quite sure there's tungsten as well somewhere, just not discovered yet.

Hey, that gives me hope! Thanks.
I thought the ore patches were few and far between, but didn't know that the lava lakes overwrite the ore patches!

As a possible aide, you can use CTRL+F (default keybind) to search the map. This gives you an easy way to find, for example, any coal patches you might have that are on the map but you just missed them.

Thankyou so much! I didn't know CTRL+F works on the map. Now I'm really glad I made this post.Hurkyl wrote: Wed Aug 13, 2025 7:54 pm As a possible aide, you can use CTRL+F (default keybind) to search the map. Been playing factorio since 2016 and still learning new features now. I think that's testament to how deeply rewarding the game is.

Dude, your map has the measles.

If you don't mind "cheating" you could go into editor and scout around. Reload your game to reset the map to unexplored.

Nice mod, thanks.Kyralessa wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 1:43 pm You could try this mod to re-create the surface:

I really like Vulcanus, which is why my friend told me about the alternate start so we can skip the Nauvis part, but I like starting on Nauvis and seeing how quickly I can get to Vulcanus.
Thus, I decided "Let's just set these sliders to the minimum, to make it more of a challenge."
Energy and metal is so easy on Vulc. The only limiting factor is coal, and Tungsten.
Coal is no biggie, I can ship coal from Nauvis.
But I need that sweet creamy Tungsten.
