There are no biter nests in Naivus. "No Enemies" Mode

Post by GarrapataGarcia »

I'm playing Factorio in "No Enemies" mode. The time has come when, to continue progressing, I have to capture a biter nest. There are no biter nests in Naivus. I can't understand this; I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I'm playing "No Enemies" mode. If so, they should warn you that playing this mode sometimes causes the game to crash. But what confuses me the most is that there are pentagon eggs in Gleva, which are useless to me.

How can I fix this so I can continue progressing? Do you know of any mod that adds biter nests in Naivus or provides their eggs? I've searched but haven't found anything.

There will be enemy bases with the "No enemies" setting, if you are sure you did not disable enemy bases as well post the save file.

I'm not sure what the mode I'm playing is called. I understand there's a "Peaceful Mode" where there are enemies, but they only attack you if you attack them first. Or something like that. Then there's "No Enemies Mode" where enemies don't exist. I'm playing this second mode.

As for publishing the file... I don't know what that is. If you can tell me what file it is and where to find it, I'll get on it. Does publishing it require any special skills, or is it something only a basic user can do? Very, very basic user.

If you are on windows the save file should be in C:\Users\[ACCOUNT NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\saves\[SAVE NAME]
Drag that file into the message box and you should be good.

I've got the file. I'll try dragging it over and see if I have any luck.

It seems you set your map creation settings in a way the whole Nauvis is completely covered with water (water scale 150% coverage 600%) so just the area considered as starting area is covered with land, since it's guaranteed to have land in the starting area.
And you set the enemy base setting to have the minimum possible frequency and size of 17%, so any enemy bases are very infrequent, and it seemed to happen there was no one generated in the starting area due to this settings.

As far as I see, with the settings you used you broke your map from the start. You could activate map editor and manually place some nests with the map editor tools, but this would deactivate any achievements still possible with that save.

The whole Nauvis covered with water? No, not the whole. I found an island with a few nests south west of your base. Paste this into your chat and see:

Oh my God!!! I can't believe what you've achieved!!! It's wonderful, I'm so excited to be able to continue advancing in this game.

The setup... I'm a complete mess. I already thought Naivus was a bit small. As for the enemies, I don't want them. I just want a building game without anyone bothering me, much less destroying the things I've built. That's why I set it to the minimum possible.

But since I don't understand, I create catastrophes.

You don't know how much I appreciate you making the effort to find that island with nests. I never would have found it. And it's better than the option of placing them by hand, not because I care about Achievements, which I don't care about, but because I don't know if I would have known how to do it.

But how did you find that island?

I switched to map editor mode (using /editor in the chat), this removes the character and enables much faster travelling. Then I started exploring the water way north of your starting area and created a big search circle clockwise around your starting isle. I continued, because there was not 100% water but a few tiny isles now and then, so I thought to myself there could perhaps also be some isle with biter nests.
So I found that bigger island at 3/4 of the full circle. You don't see the search circle, because I hit that isle from the far south, which isn't visible in the screenshot. In comparison to the search circle it was quite near to your starting area, so I just uncovered the water you see in the screenshot to show you the way.

What you have as map isn't the real experience the common Factorio player has. By changing the water settings, you essentially cut off every useful land beyond your starting area.

If you start a new map, you should just activate the "no enemies" checkbox and keep the other enemy settings at their default. You will see much more nests, the commonly created land, and there will never be any enemies. Never from any of the nests, even if you shoot them, never from pollution, and the biter and pentapod eggs you will deal with for manufacturing will never spawn enemies when they spoil. So just enabling "no enemies" is totally sufficient.

Having said that, and myself being an enemy hater as well, I must say enemies will add some spice to the game. I aborted my very first game (with enemies) and created a map without enemies to explore the game undisturbed. But every map I started after that again contained enemies with their default settings. It was a bit too bland without them even for my preferences. They are a nice and worthy addition to the game and make Factorio a well balanced complete game.
