I simple don't get who invented Foundation and then when ahead and said: Ok, so, we have lava and oil oceans. If anyone want to land fill them, they need to unlock this super late game thing called Foundation. Oh, and we need to make sure it's an absolute pain to transporte it. And of course, you need thousens. Also, no, you can't use it on the planete you unlock it. Did I get it right? Because I don't understand why can't we use Foundation to cover the Ice area. Or make them spreed the heat. I absoluty do not get how comes on Aquilo we don't have anything to get rid of frost, but also no frige or other way to free items that have spoilge. This is exactly why I say: Foundation have been implemented just to be a massive pain. Dear devs, please fix it, even if the solution is to add Tick boxes and slider before start of the game. Like tick box: building places on Foundation won't free (prevents achivements). Slider: amound of resources needed to produce them (since productivity get maxed at 300% anyways). Like this, there is no change in the game by default and we have more options. Please improve this because Foundation are not rewarding as they are.
For anyone posting mods: I use the mutiply and unlock early already, thank you. The reason why I still suggested this, is exactly because I use such mods, I noticed that Overhaul mods, aka the one that change recepies, and this mods, are messing up each other. Aka the reason why I sugest this as a base vanilla game: We Paid to have access to Foundation and even POST game it's a massive chore and we need to use mods, that might or might not work, to enjoy something we paid for? To make Vanilla factorio more enjoyable, like someone not using mods truely enjoying using Foundation. And preventing issues caused by mods, since if this is a core factorio stuff, the mods will take that in consideration VS Usually no issues, sometimes... well good luck.
Anyways, thank you all

For future reference: please use the the template viewtopic.php?t=47316

I think the reason for the late game unlock is so you have to deal with the challenge of lava/oil. Think about if you could just landfill those; you would miss a lot of the depth that the building restrictions add.I simple don't get who invented Foundation and then when ahead and said: Ok, so, we have lava and oil oceans. If anyone want to land fill them, they need to unlock this super late game thing called Foundation.
Pretty sure this is just to encourage building of infrastructure. A hint to make it easier:Oh, and we need to make sure it's an absolute pain to transporte it.
nothing about foundation requires it to be made on Aquilo. I recommend making it on Vulcanus
The largest benefit of foundationAnd of course, you need thousens
, connecting power between islands on Fulgora,
doesn't need that much. More generally you get diminishing returns with more foundation. This does feel a bit weird but isn't actually all that bad nor singular in the game (for example biolabs can't be used on Gleba). Also, no, you can't use it on the planete you unlock it. Did I get it right? Because I don't understand why can't we use Foundation to cover the Ice area. Or make them spreed the heat.
These fit better in mods as they are optional additional features. This is exactly why I say: Foundation have been implemented just to be a massive pain. You paid for a DLC not Foundation, and, based on the fact that you made it through Aquilo, a DLC that you enjoyed. We Paid to have access to Foundation and even POST game it's a massive chore and we need to use mods, that might or might not work, to enjoy something we paid for?

It's a feature that you may not like the implementation of but that doesn't mean other people don't like the challenge. I think the challenge of making and getting foundation everywhere is fun.To make Vanilla factorio more enjoyable, like someone not using mods truely enjoying using Foundation.
Re: Foundation to prevent frost or/and spreed heat
My two cents. I've never used foundation simply because by the time I've unlocked it, I've more or less completed the game. Seems more for mega-basing than anything.
An earlier unlock along with a mechanic that still gates it until you've completed a particular planets challenge... might be a good middle ground. Tho at this point I'm not sure they'd change it. Beyond that, as said above, mods are the solution.

This is my main issue with it. You have to build your Vulcanus and Fulgora base before you have foundation, which means that by the time you have foundation you don't need it because you're already completed the things you would use it for.MrJoshua wrote: Wed Aug 06, 2025 10:32 am I've never used foundation simply because by the time I've unlocked it, I've more or less completed the game.

It definitely is for post-game. I see it as an additional challenge with the reward of expanding Vulcanus and Fulgora becoming easier.quineotio wrote: Wed Aug 06, 2025 2:46 pmThis is my main issue with it.
