[2.0.60] Game freezes at specific time

Post by Marco3104 »

1. What did you do?
I was just playing the game as usual. The crash happens regardless of what actions I'm performing, it doesn't seem to be tied to anything specific.

2. What happened?
The game consistently crashes at exactly 203:10:10 in-game time, every single time. There's no error message or log, Factorio just freezes without warning.

3. What did you expect to happen instead?
I expected to continue playing normally without the game crashing.

4. Additional context:
I've played Factorio for many hours and have a good sense of how bugs behave. Normally, I can quickly identify what causes them, especially when mods are involved and I'm often able to fix the issue myself. But this time, I'm completely stumped.

To troubleshoot, I disabled some mods, then tested with only half of them active, then the other half and eventually disabled all mods. The crash still occurs at exactly 203:10:10 in-game time, no matter what.

Since I'm unable to continue my playthrough because of this, I'd really like to know what's causing it.
It's quite mysterious.

I get this message when I try to upload my ~130mB savefile:

Error parsing server response.

Thats why I also uploaded it to my Drive:

Re: [2.0.60] Repeatable Crash at Specific In-Game Time

Thanks for the report however the log files do not show any crash. When I load your save, at that exact time - all of your roughly 18'000 roboports on the surface "EE_TESTSURFACE_player" lose power and the game is struggling to process the deactivations of them all within the same tick.

Based off what's on that surface, you can simply go into the map editor and delete it. It's going to take the same amount of time as when they all lose power because it's functionally the same (remove also has to do the same process as losing power).
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Thank you very much!

That’s exactly whats causing my freeze. Just like you said, the logs don’t show any crash and there isn’t one, the game simply freezes while processing all the roboports. If I just wait for about 3 minutes, the game eventually recovers and I can continue playing.

Just for context/explanation:
The "EE_TESTSURFACE_player" surface comes from the Editor Extensions mod. It’s a surface where I can freely build and test blueprints before using them in my actual base.

Thanks again for helping me figure this out!

I've looked into improving the performance of this scenario but so far I don't have anything that makes it work faster.

Thanks for going to such lengths to figure this out and even looking into performance improvements!

I guess in my base this is a (rare?) edge case, where all my roboports lose power at the exact same time and I happen to have around >20k of them, as you already mentioned.

This scenario only happens because I usually create my blueprints there with the "Global electric network" option enabled. When I finish a blueprint, I disable this option to check which parts aren’t properly connected, so I can place missing power poles.

Now, my Obama mapart (as you can see by entering the editor) alone contains about 19k roboports that aren’t connected to any power. When I toggle off the global network, those (together with the other roboports of my blueprints) lose power simultaneously, which caused the freeze. 😅

Memo to myself: Be more careful when using the Global electric network or just build less roboports ^^
