Hi all
I had used the map editor to turn off enemy expansion. I went into surfaces, clicked Edit Map Gen Settings, flipped the preset to Rail World, then clicked Confirm.
At least I thought that's all I did. Now, new chunks generated on Nauvis come complete with Gleba trees, no resources except for Scrap, and Gleba's enemies. I hadn't even discovered Gleba yet on this save. I had just gotten to space and was constructing my platform to get to Vulcanus.
I do have a few QOL mods installed as well as Alien Biomes. I have an autosave just after I used the editor, but nothing before as I had done my adjustment, then went and cleared out expanded nests, revealed some new chunks just to see Scrap as a resource on the ground and all the Gleba trees. I don't have many chunks generated like this -- if I can reverse the effects I can use the editor to replant the correct trees and get rid of the scrap.
Anyway to reverse this blunder, or is this save permanently cooked?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Map editor caused world corruption - Nauvis is Gleba now
Re: Map editor caused world corruption - Nauvis is Gleba now
Sounds like too far gone. Just reload save from before map editor experiment.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't have one of those. The last autosave was from right after I executed the editor changes. Sigh...pioruns wrote: Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:47 pm Sounds like too far gone. Just reload save from before map editor experiment.

Sorry to hear.
Next time, remember to always manually Save the game before you quit the session. It costs nothing.
Re: Map editor caused world corruption - Nauvis is Gleba now
Always save the map to a named file as soon as you start it. Then the game will prompt you to save over it again when you exit, and even let you change the name when you do.

Thanks. I know how to save the game. I even use multiple files!
The issue was that I saved over my original file, and then too many auto saves elapsed from the time I executed the editor change and until I noticed that things weren't right, since I executed the editor change and then started doing several other things.

Sorry for your loss, but that's how the IT world teaches about the importance of backups. If something doesn't have a backup, it's not important.
About saving strategy: I create a new save for every day I play, so in the worst case I can go back to yesterday's game state or the days before. It's also useful as history if, for example, you're wondering what your starting mall looked like, if you create a new game and remembered how fine that one was and want to use it again.
They have a very creative naming scheme: 000, 001, 002, 003, etc., 999. (didn't arrive at 999 yet).

Despite looking the same, the "Map Generation Settings" dialog works different in Editor Mode: each Planet/Surface's Settings may be edited individually. When you "flipped the preset to Rail World" it applied the settings for all planets to only the current planet (Nauvis).jguy1987 wrote: Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:09 pmI had used the map editor to turn off enemy expansion. You can (possibly) fix this:
- Edit the Map Gen Settings again, un-checking everything not related to Nauvis.
- Delete Chunks which have been generated improperly
- Re-generate those chunks by exploring the map

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. I think I tried something like this? But I'll have to try again.eugenekay wrote: Tue Jul 01, 2025 3:52 pmDespite looking the same, the "Map Generation Settings" dialog works different in Editor Mode: each Planet/Surface's Settings may be edited individually. I did end up "fixing it" by installing the Creative Mode mod, copying my entire base into a blueprint, then regenerated the map and pasted the entire thing in while in "instant build" mode. It took about 5 minutes but it ended up working, more or less. I had to kick start things like nuclear by cheating in the cells and cheating in bots and the more complicated supplies like blue circuits and armor parts.
