This is a rough one for me, because I've told a joke about it on reddit, but it's actually rather hard for me. Particularly since I want to make youtube videos about games I like.
When you switch into remote view, the music fades and then switches to a planets track.
I have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. And one of the things that happens is you can sometimes notice things and be extremely distracted by them; that do not affect other people. I call it "the squirrel", because it is like noticing a small animal across the street when you are trying to do something else. You're a fine adult, but the disorder holds you back because you do things faster sometimes than is merited and sometimes have more emotion than is helpful.
I like the music. I like the idea of displaying all of it as a default (it respects the musician, and they've done very well). In my case it ends up sounding like someone is switching the radio constantly because I switch menus quick, pause to fix and issue for a minute or two, and switch again.
Is there some way, that one planet's music could be put on "shuffle", regardless of how you switch the remote view? That way, if I get excited and start to switch between planets and space platforms to check things, the music does not change (and I do not get distracted as a result). It might be possible to tie it to the surface I am on, that way I do not have to manually adjust things so much? And can show the planets music off; as well as I can?
It may not be well handled as a game feature but as a mod. Curious for thoughts. It's difficult, because it's technically excellent. In terms of my perception it isn't for me.
I am already aware of the pause/skip music functions in the game. This does not fit my "use case" because then I am a hyperactive person investing too much in pausing something beautiful. It's rather frustrating. Edit: also, more often than not it ends up getting paused for too long.
Feature request: Shuffle mode / music based off surface on instead of surface in remote view

There is a ambient-music-based-on-physical-location hidden setting.coffee-factorio wrote: Mon Jun 23, 2025 7:49 pm It might be possible to tie it to the surface I am on, that way I do not have to manually adjust things so much? And can show the planets music off; as well as I can?
Having a mode where it plays tracks completely randomly is something I can consider (it would probably be done using another hidden setting).

There are also hidden settings for the music transition, for example setting music-transition-delay-ticks to some huge number will make it so that it will finish playing the current track.

You guys are on top of it!
I have a question, is this something that will affect steam achievements? It's okay either way, I'm have fun with mods. Those will do the same thing. I'll just get the steam achievements with other music, do videos with the command line setting. Just want to figure it out before I try.
edit:
Followed instructions on wiki. Suspect it won't mess with anything.

No, it won't affect achievements.
