Allow "Import from" selector in character inventory if group is shared with a platform

Post by macintacos »

I've just gotten to Aquilo, and find myself sending platforms around to gather materials from a planet. The way I typically manage it is that as I'm building something, if I realize I don't have something, I'll just open up my character inventory and select the item I need in the logistics group that I share between my character and the ship that is stationed at a planet that has that item. I'll do this for a while and eventually decide that I want to send that ship back to Aquilo to drop off all the items.

Unfortunately, often I'll forget that if I select an item from my character inventory's logistics group, on the space platform it will default to importing from Nauvis. The place where I decide to do a lot of bulk-item builds is on Vulcanus, so I have to manually adjust this. This is fine, I'm okay with having to modify the "Import from" selector directly. However, I cannot do this from my character - I _have to_ go to the space platform and select it from there. It's a bit annoying.

I understand not wanting to show an "Import from" selector on the character most of the the time, since typically you're not sharing that group with a space platform. For this use case though, I think it makes sense to show it. If a space platform is sharing the same logistics group as the character, you should be able to modify the "Import from" selector from the character inventory, without needing to go to the platform directly to change it there.

I've been running into this issue as well. Especially the first time, I was confused why my ship wasn't receiving resources from the planet. Turns out there is an "import from" setting hidden away in the "set orbital request" dialog. I had not noticed that before. Now I can manage it, but it is tedious to have to set that to Gleba (my main production planet) every time I add a new resource to import.

Instead of cluttering other screens that use the named logistic request section, I suggest as solution to set the import per Request section in the space platform hub GUI. In that case it does not matter from where new requests are added to the group, they will all be imported from the same location. It could look as follows:

Edit: Another "solution" would be if platforms could set their requests using the circuit network. In that case, you can set the request in a constant combinator and pass that on to the space platform hub to request, based on the planet you're on. Then it would request those items from the planet its currently on and this can be configured using the logistic requests sections. Unfortunately the space platform does not have an option to set requests using the circuit network.
