[modded] The "dotted bass" machine !

This board is to show, discuss and archive useful combinator- and logic-creations.
Smart triggering, counters and sensors, useful circuitry, switching as an art :), computers.
Please provide if possible always a blueprint of your creation.

[modded] The "dotted bass" machine !

Post by mmmPI »

The dotted bass machine :
This is a short video with sound meant to illustrate the sound from my mod : Bass extended for programmable speaker which is required for the blueprint to sound as great as this :P :

Ok it's not that great x) The machine is quite basic, and the rythm is a little off, this was the first attempt at using the volume as signal to try and make a "sidechain", but it only turns volume from 100 to 1 and back, instead of more gradual approach, it kinda sound like in the tutorial, except when the 2nd kick hits, the bass volume should be at around 30 and gradually increase back, but it's not. I thought it "sound" more "demonstrative" on how some samples can "sound" longer than others.

I tried to show with the lamp that the speakers can be triggered at a certain time, ( lamp at the top) but then their volume can be reduced before the end of the sample, the lamps at the bottom represent the volume.
The bassline machine
A second machine offered for free if you buy the first one ! That's because there are not just one but 2 bass added by the mod !

What !? 2 additionnal bass ?!

Yes ! However the machine that play is older it was explained here but i changed the instrument and made it play slower to add a video , although it could have use more adjustment for this particular instrument, like reducing the volume before the end of the sample, you can already hear the power of the bass easily achieving complete saturation a few seconds after it start playing :

Here is the blueprint, it's only the upper part, the lower one being a copy where i manually changed all the speaker to "dotted bass". You don't have to do that if you want to hear the sound of the instrument "bassline" from my mod, that's why i'm posting those :)

I'm also joining a savegame with a map where the video were recorded, it has a single mod, to make it easier to sync, and/or use see the blueprint in action if it sound different, or any problem :

What is this all about ?
I want to make sure there is no misunderstanding, this is not about the guitar, this is not about the piano or the violin, nor even the flute, this is only about the "bass", the musical instrument presented here in the mod are bass !
Hopefully this is more upfront that my usage of AIs in Yet another speaker contraption this time playing AI song from modded samples. I don't want yet another person calling me names for failing to disclose the embarrassing truth, so disclaimer, i am not able to make those sound by myself with my mouth, nor am i able to actually create a physical instrument that makes those noises, i'm only using a synthetizer to generate those and then put them in a mod so they are played by some machines that are not AI !

An AI was used however to make the image of the bass for the mod thumbnail, that's because if i was to draw the bass myself it wouldn't be easy to identify it as a bass and i thought it would be misleading to add a picture of a real instrument if the sounds in the mod are not from the instrument in the picture.

Please feel free to suggest any improvements or any ideas related to "the bass" the instrument, the mod, or ways to play, if some genre i'm not familiar with require special combinator machine or different sample to play the music, i'm curious ! ( preferably without calling me names ) ! If you have suggestion on other music instrument you can send me private message instead !
