[2.0.43] Automatic Underground Belt placement not as expected/desired.

Post by nmuhlbauer »

When placing belts I often use the click and drag method which automatically places underground belts around obstacles. If a splitter is in place already and I drag a belt across it perpendicular to it's flow direction, the new belt automatically goes under the entire splitter. This is expected. When using a splitter as a 2 in 1 out merger, and I place a perpendicular belt in front of the splitter, the new belt goes under the single out belt from the merger, but in the process, it places one of the underground belt entities directly in front of the merger so the merger is placing one lane of items into the underground belt. This has bitten me more than once with unwanted items showing up in unexpected places. I would expect that for auto-placed underground belts, the underground portion would be both squares in front of the splitter so there's no unwanted items placed on the new belt.

This is what it does:

This is what I would expect:

It's not a huge problem, but I think it would be a simple fix and a big QOL upgrade.

Thanks

It might not be a "bug" in the usual sense, but I can't think of any reason you would want this automatically placed so that items from one belt show up on another without explicitly placing an underground belt there. Certainly if I click specifically on that square with an underground belt, then I would want it to get the items from the splitter, but when I'm long haul dragging a new belt I don't want it getting random items like this. I can't imagine anyone would want it like that.
