Salvage returned rocket modules

Post by avenger »

I hope this is kinda simple a feature and will add a significant amount of "logic" to the game. As much as I understand that's not the point of factorio at all.

- A rocket module landing in the ground (where the planet has no landing pads) would give when "mined", something like a "heavily damaged rocket module" which could be salvaged (say, in an assembling machine) into a few of its materials -- or should it be only reciclable once recycling is enabled.
- A rocket module landing in a landing pad generates a "moderately damaged rocket module" which produces much better yield than a crash-landed one. I mean, it still is damaged during the atmospheric burnout.

So it should recover mostly processing units and low density struts as its fuel is supposed to be well spent when it makes the travel back to the surface. Maybe a single unit for the pad-landed one (meaning it doesn't use all fuel to ensure safe landing, right?).

An alternative to salvaging without the need of recipe for assembliers or recyclers would be to use the heavily/slightly damaged parts as "fuel" in the rocket silo (similar to nutrients in biochambers). It would instead increase productivity equivalent to its portion of a full rocket (5-25%), until consumed -- and won't stop rocket production, but would be "insertable" in the rocket silo much like processing units/low density struts/rocket fuel are. That would be really fun to integrate with the flow of a factory!

The orbital drop pods are free. The blue chips/lds/rocket fuel are for rockets.

Well, aren't the "orbital drop pods" the little "module" that is released from the tip of the rocket, if you watch the cutscenes when you go yourself to space platforms? I mean, one of the very "rocket parts" built during the rocket assembly? Just like it works in the ISS irl?

Yes, the little module thing that is released from the tip of the rocket - the rocket that costs blue chips/lds/rocket fuel.
