Priority energy feature

Post by JaJe »

Many times, in particular early stage when I have boilers + coal as main source of energy before unlocking solar or even nuclear I have a lower satisfaction energy temporary due to a high spike of of energy making my whole base working slower, including inserters.

If we could add priority energy to those inserters to never suffer the draw back and instead let everything else inside the electric grid suffer even more so my boilers keep getting feed with coal and normal speed.

I know I can use burner inserter as a backup but this was an ideea to implement not just for this particular case but every building to keep using the maximum power even if the satisfaction goes low for a certain time for various reasons.

Would be a nice feature to be used in different circumstances apart for the example of boilers and inserters.

Factorio already has a well-laid-out Electrical Priority System; it just happens that most machines and Inserters share the same Priority so that your factory slows down evenly when it runs out of power. In-Game, you can use a Power Switch (with an Accumulator and Circuit) to detect when your factory’s Power usage exceeds the available energy, and selectively shutdown some parts of the grid (Load Shedding) to prevent brownouts due to underpowered fuel Inserters. Another technique would be to simply double-up each Boiler’s Electric Inserter with a Burner Inserter for redundancy.

The specific behavior of the Electric Network is customizable via the Lua API, which means that there is already a mod to allow you to set Electric Priority for each entity type.

Good Luck!

If I understand correct, here you are:

Not really.
Basically when you have low satisfaction, to have a check button on every building/inserter or slider of priority similar of what trains have for priority but to be a priority of power. Let's say the satisfaction of power is at red and almost nothing moves on the base due the underpower and all your base draw all the energy because you ran out of coal, instead If I choose just a few buildings to have high priority energy, they will not be affected by the low power as it will draw all the remaining energy for themself while leaving everything else at low or no power at all.
